About the Ard Rí
The name seems apt seeing as O'Connors were the High Kings of Connaght from where Rodger hails, and is in fitting with the pubs setting up on the hilltop, as well as the fact that the title is somewhat of an anagram of Angie, Rodger and their three children's first-names!
This well run and very busy establishment introduces you to husband and wife team, Rodger O'Connor, from Bearna, Co. Galway and his wife Angie, originally from West Belfast. The couple, who immigrated back to Ireland from USA in 2003, met in 1994 as they worked in a similar type environment in The Irish Embassy Pub and Restaurant, Boston, MA.
Rodger's managerial experience led him on the path to Letterkenny after 17 years of working in other well known Boston Irish pubs such as McGanns, Ned Kelly's and J.J. Foleys. J.J. Foleys boast the title of the longest family-run Irish American pubs, hosted by Jerry and Jimmy Foley who have a great hand in teaching Rodger all he needs to know in how to set up a successful and well run enterprise. The venue's upstairs reveals a tastefully decorated function room which is more of a modern, contemporary persuasion. Almost every weekend so far has been rained on with bookings from simple family get-togethers, Christenings and birthday parties to fundraising functions, committee meetings and even weddings to date! And with ample space surrounding the Pub there's never a problem with parking.
The O'Connors, and a circle of approximately 20 hard working, ambitious and friendly staff hope to prove as a recipe for success for many years to come in the Letterkenny area.
